Training

Introduction

Everyone who plays airsoft knows it is a physically demanding sport. This is often overlooked by the players however it should not be. Every Friday I will release a workout that will help you grow and get fitter so you can perform better out on the field.

These workouts I've been designed for everybody regardless of your situation, they do not take hours to complete, you do not require a gym membership, and in fact they can be done with little to no equipment at all. The reason I've designed them like this is to make them as approachable and accessible to everybody regarding on your situation in life.

Is goes without saying that doing one workout a week is not enough however what these posts will give you is a good idea of the kind of things you should be doing in order to gain the benefits from physical training. These be specifically tailored to be applicable to airsoft players and the tactical individual. You may hear the term tactical athlete or hybrid athlete used a lot and that is exactly the kind of training that we aim to conduct. Do not think that after 3 weeks of training you will be a phys monster, it takes time and as long as you are putting in the effort to improve then that is all that really matters. Fitness is so important not just in airsoft but life in general and you will only ever benefit from taking care of your physical health.

So what does it involve?

Well, there's going to be a lot of burpees and a lot of sweat. But stick it out and I promise you, that there will be noticeable benefits. Each session should take no longer than 20 minutes, so it is important that you put in maximum effort during that time, it is not meant to be an easy workout – in fact it is meant to kick your ass, so embrace the suck. I have tried to keep them as simple as possible, so there is no wild movements or exercises that will confuse you, they are all simple and straight forward to execute.

Having the required self-discipline

Not everyone enjoys being uncomfortable or exhausted however that is a place you are going have to get accustomed to visiting. Growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zones we are mostly used to – so be disciplined and get after it, make it a non-negotiable element in your week that you must train. Focus on the benefits, goals and impact it is having on your life.

Glossary and Definitions of terms used in the workouts

Don’t worry these will all be explained on the individual workout posts to make it crystal clear on what you need to do, however I will stick them all here as a go to glossary just in case.

EMOM: Every Minute On the Minute – you do the exercise for a minute for a set rep count. For example EMOM 10 push ups, so you do 10 push ups within a minute and then rest before the next minute starts.

AMRAP: As Many Rounds As Possible – you complete as many rounds as possible of a exercise or sequence of exercises in a specified time. So this could be 10 minutes AMRAP of 10 push ups, 20 squats , 5 burpees. You do the reps in a loop for the 10 minutes and record how many rounds you completed (only a full set of completed exercises count)

AMREP: As Many Reps As Possible – same as above but reps not rounds.

FT: For Time – complete the workout as fast as you can and record the time.

Buy in: A heart raiser before you start the main workout, this will get you going – they normally suck.

Buy out: Similar to above but it’s the last hard push at the end of a workout that you need to complete in order to stop the workout. It is not a cooldown and  just like a buy in, they usually suck.

Make sure to check and read the disclaimer before conducting any of the training or workouts on this website, I know its boring but it is kind of important too. Remember to train safely and responsibly and never rush and sacrifice form for speed, do the exercises under control and if you do need a break just take it. Check YouTube if you are stuck on what an exercise is or how it should be conducted.

Summary

That’s it troops, Simple. There genuinely is no secrecy behind getting fit, or improving fitness – there is so much information online now so find what works for you and get stuck in. Hopefully these inspire you and help you either get started on that fitness journey or they just help you maintain your current levels. Give them a try and check in each Friday for a new workout, start here! Stay safe.
